So thanks to your support team I finally finished this lab.... in the final step I had been exposing the service using a manifest instead of by using kubectl .... I think either approach should work, maybe the lab could be updated to check for the service (e.g. kubectl get service -n <namespace> <servicename> ) instead of checking that kubectl expose had been run ??
