It seems a bit complicated to use the failure of a Lambda exection as alarm trigger that results in an SNS message to eventually send the email. Wouldn't it be easier to send the email directly from the Lambda? The lab description should perhaps explain the benefits of that multi-step approach (or take a simpler approach if there are no benefits)
