the cluster has 2 nodes, by resizing this to 6 x dc1.8xlarge, the data only took a couple of min instead of an hour to load. resizing to 4 nodes is faster than resizing to 6 nodes. good way to learn hands on performance tuning.

1 copy task took over 13 min and another over 25 min. more compute nodes and splitting the tbl file into multiparts can speed up the process, as per tutorial on aws documentation. the 25 min task uses dist key and sort key, and the 13 min task does not. loading the same tbl twice taking over 28 min. luckily this lab is about performance tuning.

the loading of data from S3 took over 45 min for 1 task, unless you can find a way to load the data faster, please stay this in the brief of the lab that it is not possible to complete the lab. I did it twice and I don't have 2 x 2hrs to get cut off by the lab timer this way. this lab should be rated as not working.

Very less time provided. Need to allocate at least 2.5 hours for this lab. Compression query could not be finished - WLM setting could not be verified in the allocated time. Very dissapointing!
